Demolition

Currently, one of the more dilapidated blocks in the city centre is being demolished to house Calgary's new tallest building, which should be topping out some time in 2016. It's on the site of the former Calgary Herald building on 7th Avenue (opposite the Hudson's Bay store for those of you have visited and know where it is). It's going to make that part of town look much better, it used to be quite an eyesore in comparison to most of the rest of the street.

The building was originally built in 1912, and reclad in quite nasty fashion in 1967 before the Herald moved out in 1981. It has a place in my Permanent Residence application story, since it was the location of the office of the lawyer who notarised the copies of my certificates used in my application. Demolition of the print hall went to plan before Christmas, but yesterday as the main building was being torn down, the man with the digger was a little bit over-zealous....
