A couple of weeks ago, I changed TV/telephone/internet supplier, fed up as I was with the bill going up every three months since February 2011. After doing some due diligence, I changed from my old company to their major competitor, who could offer me exactly the same service, a free rental personal video recorder (like a Sky+ box), and a free rental tablet computer.
I'd always wondered what the point of the latter were, and just why there'd be a need for something between laptop and smartphone. But it was free, It arrived in the post on Tuesday, and it's - to borrow a phrase - amazeballs. The quality of picture and sound coming from it is tremendous. It's a fraction of the weight of a laptop, and smaller. It's going to make the trip home at Christmas so much less of a pain, not having to carry a laptop bag, as well as a heavy laptop.
It did make me laugh when I remembered what I was told on the phone when I rang up to cancel my old supplier. "If it seems too good to be true, it usually is", said the woman on the phone. Wrong!
