So the cast is off. This was so much of an event in my little world that I was wide awake at 5:50am this morning. Bus negotiated the rush-hour traffic fairly well. On arrival, the usual checks and five minutes later it was x-ray time, then another wait and a date with a circular saw. That's a very odd sensation. Some more cleaning up of the wounds and then inspection by the doctor. Over his shoulder, I could see my x-rays and that the number of screws in my ankle looks to be more than the advertised seven. Still, he thinks a) it is all going to plan and b) is OK for me to carry on without air cast. His command to me is to be off the crutches within two weeks, fitting physio in where possible. It was a pleasant surprise to find out I get five or six free physio appointments, for which I was expecting to pay.
So for the record, here's what it looks like.

And if you're trying to count the staple wounds, I'll save you the bother. There are forty-two of them (!)
