I paid a visit to the Coventry/Warwick/Kenilworth area last Monday. Aside from being overambitious on the curry eating front, the trip South was notable for the absence of a particular landmark; the Tinsley Viaduct cooling towers. They were there for more than 70 years, formerly a part of a power station but latterly as a Yorkshire version of the Angel of the North; however long I had been in a car, I knew that when I passed them heading North I was only 40 minutes from home.Apparently they were demolished in August over a long weekend, illustrative of the fact that I can still keep reasonably up-to-date with the major headlines on this side of the pond, but local news stories I have a little trouble keeping up with. The price paid for living thousands of miles away, I suppose.
